When, in 2007, the Internet was brought to life by a documentary on Al Franken, the liberal blogger who later resigned as a congressman citing “sexual misconduct” on board the National Transportation Safety Board, he said she “went to heaven” on this issue.

“I’ve been doing that for almost a decade. My only regret is that the Internet is where we started. I will always be there for women, young women, gays and lesbians,” he wrote on his blog, Women In Television.

“I have always been a feminist, even when I was a child,” he went on to say, “that doesn’t mean I’m a feminist. I was a feminist then, but now I am an activist for equality.”

“If there was ever a time why the internet exists, it’s now,” he continued. “Even now, the Internet is a distraction, a mess of people who just want something in this weird, terrible day. And I hope their time in prison is not as long as it is for a couple of men who may not be on the internet anymore.”

When pressed on his concerns with women’s right to privacy online, the first man to express his perspective online was a “very nice gentleman,” a man who agreed with Franken on many points.
